How is a track’s score calculated?
A track’s score is made up of a combination of the votes of all Jelli listeners and any power-ups (rockets, bombs) applied to that track. The highest scoring tracks will make it on the air.
How do I vote for tracks?
Vote for a track if you want to hear it, or vote against it to try to keep it from playing. To vote for a track in the list, click the green checkmark. To vote against it, click the red ‘X’ on the track.
After you’ve voted on a track, you can remove your vote by clicking the button again, or you can change your vote by clicking on the opposite vote button. However, you cannot down vote a track which has a current score of 0. You’ll have to wait until it has a score of at least 1 to vote against it.
What are power-ups?
Power-ups give you more power to affect a track’s score. By using power-ups strategically, in addition to voting on a track, you can exert more control over what makes it on the air.
Currently, there are two kinds of Jelli power-ups:
- Rockets: Rockets send the track to the fourth position in the Who’s Next list
- Bombs: Bombs clear all the current votes and power-ups that were applied to the track, sending it back to the bottom of the Who’s Next list
How do I use my power-ups?
Roll over a track and press the “radioactive” button to open the Jelli power panel. From there, click on the “rocket” or “bomb” buttons to send a track to stardom or blow its score to smithereens.

If a track has already been rocketed, the rocket icon will show up as unavailable, but you can still add your support by voting. Power-ups become temporarily disabled when a track is blocked, but voting is always available and you can apply power-ups when the track becomes active again.
How many power-ups do I have?
Your power-up inventory of rockets and bombs is posted at the top right section of the Home page near your profile picture. You can also see how many power-ups you have by rolling over a track and hitting the “radioactive” button. There is a maximum limit of 11 rockets and 1 bomb that you can have in your account. Note that when you first join Jelli, you receive 3 rockets but no bombs; bombs are not supplied until the second day you visit Jelli.
How can I get more power-ups (rockets and bombs)?
To get more power-ups, just keep playing. We’ll award you with more power-ups every day that you login and play; 3 rockets and 1 bomb to be exact (or if you’re a Facebook connected user, you’ll earn 4 rockets and 2 bombs every day). We’ll let you stockpile up to 1 bomb and 11 rockets. Here are some other great ways to get rockets:
- Invite your friends to Jelli and earn a Jelli Power Pack filled with 4 rockets and 1 bomb. Get started
- Visit your Jelli profile (website only) and provide your date of birth and zip code to earn 5 bonus rockets – immediately!
- T_Bone and the Jelli staff have been known to sneak around and ask surprise trivia questions in the chat room. Get it right and you can win some bonus rockets
- Follow us Facebook and Twitter. We announce fun contests all the time.
Can I gift some of my rockets and/or bombs to another Jelli user?
Yes, you can! The first thing you need to do is follow the user. Visit their profile page and click the “Follow +” button. More on following
Once you’re following them, visit your own profile page and find them in your follow list. Then click the “Send a gift” icon across from their name to get started.

When the send a gift window appears, select the number of rockets and/or bombs you want to gift from the drop-down menus. Enter a custom message if you want, then click the Send button.

We’ll send a Jelli message to your recipient to let them know about your gift.
We’ll also send you a Jelli message to confirm your gift, and decrement the rockets and/or bombs from your account.
Then sit back and wait for the thanks from your Jelli friend.
What does it mean when a track is “blocked”?
At any given time we may be restricted from playing a track due to rules such as those in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. When there are restrictions on a track, it is temporarily marked as “blocked” with an icon on the lower right corner of the album art. While a track is blocked, it is subject to the following limitations:
- It cannot play on air
- It doesn’t show up in the Who’s Next list
- You cannot apply power-ups to it
You can still vote on a track while it is blocked, and its score will reflect voting activity. Once the conditions causing a track to be blocked are removed, the track will become active again and reappear in the Who’s Next list. In common Jelli lingo, the act of a track/artist/album being blocked is called being DMCAed.
Why can’t I vote/rocket a track?
Every track is not available on every Jelli station. For example you’re unlikely to find your favorite hard rock music on Pop Jelli. Our three color stations – Jelli Green, Jelli Red, and Jelli Orange – are wide open catalogs that have nearly every track available on Jelli. Other stations have specific formats or genres.
If you’re not sure if a channel has the music you’re searching for, switch to that station, enter the name of the band or track at the top of the window, and hit the “Go” button to search for it. Or alternatively switch to the station and hit the “Browse” button to look through all the music, or click the “History” link to see that last 10 tracks that played.
What are favorites?
Favorites are a listing of all your favorite tracks on Jelli. They’ll show up inside your Favorites box under your chat window and in your profile so every other user can see them too.
When you’re listening to a Jelli station, you can quickly vote up all your favorite tracks with a single click on the “Vote for All” link. You can even vote up all your friend’s favorite tracks by going to their profile and clicking “Vote for All”.
You can also sort your favorites by clicking any of the headers, “Recent”, “Artist”, “Track”, and “Score”, clicking on the header again will reverse the order from ascending to descending, or the other way around.
If you’ve made a track a favorite, a red heart will appear next to it in the Now Playing area, in the Who’s Next list, or anywhere else you come across the track such as in search results.

How do I add a track to my favorites?
There are a few ways to add a track to your favorites:
- When a track is on air and showing in the Now Playing area, hover over the track’s album art and then hit the “Add to Favorites” button
- If you see a track you like in the Who’s Next list, a friend’s favorites, or when Browsing, click the “radioactive” button, and then click the red heart button with a plus sign to add it to your favorites.
I added a song to my favorites on one station, and when I switch stations the song goes gray. What’s happening?
When you switch stations, sometimes songs that were available on one station aren’t available on another. When this happens, the song will show up with a gray box in your favorites, and you won’t be able to vote on the song or use any power-ups you have on it while on that station.
